Farrukhnagar Fort, Gurgaon
The origin of the Farrukhnagar Fort dates back to Faujdar Khan, the first Nawab of Farrukhnagar. He built it in 1732 as a grand citadel.
It is a massive octagonal structure, which displays elements of the Mughal style of architecture. One of the most impressive features of the fort is the Delhi Darwaza or Delhi Gate. Today, much of the fort is in ruins, but it is still one of the top historical places to visit in Gurgaon.
Sheesh Mahal, Gurugram
We can’t doubt that Sheesh Mahal is one of the best historical places to visit in Gurgaon.
This palace was built by Faujdar Khan in the early 18th century. Designed as a two-storied structure, the palace boasts of a beautiful baradari or domed building, which has at least 12 entrances.
Items inlaid with mirrors adorn the interiors of this palace. Because of the amazing beauty of design, this palace has been named Sheesh Mahal. The palace complex also houses a memorial built for the martyrs of Farrukhnagar, who participated in the 1857 rebellion for independence.
Sethani Ki Chhatri, Gurgaon –
Sethani Ki Chhatri is a beautiful monument designed in the form of a two-storied chhatri or dome-shaped pavilion.
Also you can see the painting of flowers in this structure. It is believed that this place was built for the wife of a famous trader. Decorated with frescoes and inscriptions, Sethani Ki Chhatri is definitely one of the historical monuments in Gurgaon.
Baoli Ghaus Ali Shah, Gurugram –
Baoli Gaus Ali Shah is an 18th century Baoli located near Farrukhnagar Fort. It was built by a local chieftain named Ghaus Ali Shah and hence named Baoli Ghaus Ali Shah.
It is an octagonal baoli which is three storeys deep. With verandahs, arches, and many stone-carved stairs, the Baoli Ghaus Ali Shah resembles a Turkish hammam in structure.
Badshahpur Fort and Baoli, Gurgaon –
Badshahpur Fort is one of the lesser known forts near Gurgaon. Also known as Badshahpur Fort, this fort belongs to the Mughal period. It served as the residence of one of the wives of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor, who often came here to visit his Begum.
This historical fort has lost much of its grandeur and splendor today and remains in a state of ruins. But you can still see Peer Baba’s tomb and a tunnel inside the complex.
Digambar Temple, Gurgaon –
This temple is the only one like this which is a Jain temple built during the Mughal rule. This temple was built in the 17th century, and is also known for its serene environment.
This place of worship is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of the Jains. There is a book shop inside the temple complex where you can see many artifacts and study material related to Jainism.
Church of Epiphany, Gurgaon –
Located in a quiet locality, the Church of the Epiphany has been located here for more than 150 years. Way back in 1866, this beautiful church was consecrated by the Bishop of Calcutta. The church was initially built for a small group of British officers serving in the region during that time.
